Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, and an evaluation using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial in your case. This will happen at your follow up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by phone). Your doctor will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to titrate three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to take part in this process of titration and keep an eye on their child's behaviour, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to book appointment with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment is usually done by video conference using zoom.
